An AI that sees what the markets miss

The novel’s central character, Joseph Abraham Moreno, has built a predictive system called CASSANDRE in his Tel Aviv tower. In the opening chapter, dated 5 October 2023 at 6:47 pm, it flags an oil move minutes before the news breaks, and the trading desk makes four million dollars in three minutes. According to the book’s own footnote, CASSANDRE is a fictional system that relies on open, commercial or legally accessible sources and is not omniscient. The question the story then asks, as described in a review by Pierre Rehov on the Emet news site, is what a person who knows should do, and what knowledge is worth if it is not shared.

A family story from Alexandria to Tel Aviv

Rehov describes the book as more than a thriller: a novel of transmission across three generations of a Jewish family. It starts in Alexandria, where the character Albert Moreno is born in 1927, follows his expulsion from Egypt in 1956 and his arrival in Nanterre, France, in January 1957, and later his career as a jeweller on the Place Vendôme in Paris. The October 7 attack appears as the latest link in a chain the family knows from the inside, Rehov writes.
